Drainage systems along railway lines are invisible during normal operation — and often only become an issue when they fail. Clogged longitudinal channels, roots in transverse passages or deposits in seepage lines can endanger the track substructure before anything is visible on the outside. On behalf of Deutsche Bahn AG, Klefenz GmbH carried out a systematic inspection of the route canalization in Bisigheim.
The inspection included all drainage components of the route section: longitudinal canals, transverse passages and intake shafts. Each section was inspected with a pipe camera, the condition was assessed and documented in a structured damage report.

Parallel to the camera inspection, any deposits found were immediately removed by high-pressure flushing. Sections that had structural damage were classified as remediation cases in the report and provided with coordinates so that the DB route service could plan a targeted repair. Klefenz handed over the report, including video documentation of all inspected sewer sections.
A regular sewer inspection is cheaper than the follow-up costs of a softened track substructure. Klefenz offers sewer inspection as an independent service for DB routes — with the technology, approvals and reporting quality that the DB route service requires for maintenance planning.

With the inspection report, Deutsche Bahn AG has a complete status overview of all canal sections in the Bisigheim line area. The immediately cleaned sections are functional again; the need for renovation is clearly documented. Klefenz has thus provided the basis for targeted and budget-friendly maintenance planning.
