On branch lines, regular maintenance is often the more economical alternative to full refurbishment: Targeted rail replacement, threshold renewal and ballast profiling bring an aging line back to a safe level of quality — without complex full closure and high investment costs. On behalf of Deutsche Bahn AG, Klefenz GmbH carried out a bundled maintenance package on the branch line in Orschweier.
Two-way vehicles were used for material transport, rail changing equipment and a ballast plough for the final profiling of the ballast. All work was carried out in a coordinated manner within a joint cut-off period — for minimal operational interruption with maximum power density.

Particular focus was on monitoring the location of the track after completion of the individual measures: Rail exchange and threshold changes influence gauge and elevation, which were measured and documented after the work was completed. Klefenz handed over the complete acceptance documentation to the DB route service, which approved the route for regular operation.
If you bundle several maintenance measures in a blackout period, you save blackout costs and coordination efforts. Klefenz plans such packages together with the DB route service and brings along the necessary crew and machine technology for all individual services. This saves time, money and nerves — for both parties.

The maintained line in Orschweier was approved on time and approved for regular operation. The maintenance package extends the useful life of the line and pushes a costly full refurbishment into the future — an economically clever approach for branch lines with a limited investment budget.
