Switches are the most complex components in the track area: They make it possible to switch between tracks, must be located precisely and must function reliably — in any weather, around the clock. In the Heitersheim station area, Deutsche Bahn AG commissioned Klefenz GmbH to renew a turnout system and adjacent sections of track. The measure required precise coordination between track construction and control and safety technology.
Klefenz took over the track construction components of the measure: expansion of the old switch, installation of the new switch system in accordance with DB superstructure guidelines, connection to the existing tracks and final position measurement with documentation.

The challenge in the railway station sector: Switch work often takes place in confined spaces with little space for machines and materials. At the same time, the requirements for dimensional accuracy and workmanship are particularly high. Klefenz delivered the installation precision required for approval by the DB route service — on time and without complaint.
Switch extensions always interfere with control and safety technology: The new switch must be connected to the signal box, parameterized and tested. Klefenz coordinated track construction closely with the LST specialist company and ensured that both trades worked in the correct construction process. Clients benefit from a partner who knows and manages the interfaces.

The turnout system at Heitersheim station was successfully renewed and put into operation after acceptance by Deutsche Bahn AG. Station operations were resumed as planned after the end of the lockdown period. The project underlines Klefenz's expertise even when it comes to complex turnaround measures in the railway station sector.
